As the Accounting Intern, you will support rue21's Accounting Managers and Staff by assisting in the areas of general accounting, accounts payable, and tax. This is a paid internship (40 hours per week). The duration of the Summer Internship Program is approximately 12 weeks beginning in May 2018.



  • Complete a collaborative group project and presentation of a business initiative
  • Provide  administrative support to the accounting department
  • Complete special projects as assigned
  • Ensure accuracy in month-end closing process
  • Reconcile/analyze general ledger accounts
  • Assist with financial statement preparation
  • Report and update financial information in Lawson financial system
  • Support the company’s cost containment initiatives
  • Assist with cash reconciliation and inventory control
  • Process invoices and supporting documents
  • Review and issue vendor payments
  • Acquire knowledge of corporate federal income and multi-state income, state sales and local personal property taxes, licenses and other local taxation


  • Must be enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in your Junior or Senior year; Accounting majors strongly preferred
  • Accounting, Finance, or related majors strongly preferred
  • Extremely detailed oriented
  • Ability to take direction and work independently to finalize assignments
  • Understanding and appreciation for fashion/retail
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, problem-solving, and presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt well to change in a fast- paced environment
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, as well as work experience in customer service and/or sales; prior retail experience a plus
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
