  • Overview

    As the Director of Marketing, this individual will oversee the Marketing Operations, Category Marketing, Media, PR, Sponsorships & Events Teams. Your primary goals will be to Build & Develop A Great Team, Engage Consumers and Drive Sales. The ideal candidate will do this through increasing awareness of the rue21 brand through all consumer touch points in addition to developing and leveraging strategic partnerships.


    • Develop yearly and seasonal brand strategy, ensure brand elements are executed in-line with strategy and maximizing brand equity. Work with Planning and Merchandising to ensure brand strategy is in-line with business needs.
    • Own and drive execution of yearly Marketing Calendar, ensuring key players are informed of responsibilities and timeline
    • Own meetings between cross-functional teams and departments to ensure timelines are adhered to and duties are executed
    • Drive cross-functional communication between key departments including Creative, Merchandising, Planning, Visuals and Operations to understand business needs and drivers
    • Oversee in-store marketing team, working closely with Retail Marketing Manager to execute window displays, in-store signage, in-store music, product marketing, coupons and customer events. Execute following complete brand vision and accounting for business needs.
    • Work with Planning to analyze success of promotions and events, use results to inform future strategy.
    • Working with other Directors to ensure adequate scheduling for all Marketing Events.
    • Oversee Social Media and PR, working closely with Social Media Manager on seasonal social strategy and content.
    • Keep abreast of current retail, brand and digital trends, implementing where possible to stay relevant and current with our customers.
    • Build yearly brand marketing budget and adhere to approved budget when building strategies and campaigns.
    • Work with Creative Director to create rue21 brand book outlining brand guidelines and style across all marketing touchpoints.
    • Use market research to advise best strategies to reach current and new customers



    • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or Communications
    • 7+ years of experience in Marketing, Retail and Social Media/PR
    • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
    • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills
    • Ability to operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional teams
    • Ability to work with and influence senior management 
    • Strong, professional and effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to foster a positive and motivating work environment, encouraging feedback and innovation
    • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines
